Just a Little ME for Halloween

I have been meaning to share these all month long so of course I waited until the last day of the month to share these.

I don't have a lot of ME Halloween, but what I do have I dearly love.

Her Royal Pumpqueen!  Don't you love it?  I think I grabbed this out of the hand of either the Singing Bee or the More Creative Bee.  Shame on me!  

A couple of fun tins.  The cat is my favorite.  I can just imagine our little Sam cat getting to work on his own little pumpkin.

I have also made (or really had help from the Sewing Bee) a few Mary Engelbreit Halloween costumes.  But I'll just have to tease you with that because those are now put away until next Halloween.  

I also have a bit of exciting news - at least exciting for me - to share with you. Hope you can come back to share it with me.

From Kitchen Garden to Haunting Graveyard

Transmogrify!

That's exactly what I told my kitchen garden.  Your season is over (for now) little kitchen garden and you need to get with the program.

Here you are in all your summer glory!

But some new folks have moved in....

I'm not sure I'll want them stay for long.  You know what they say about house guests and fish - they both start to stink in 3 days.

Why.....are those the ghosts of Sweet Bee, Worker Bee, Baby Bee, Sam Cat, and Brody Cat?

Are they.......dancing???

They won't tell.  Their lips are sealed.  FOREVER!  (cue the spooky music)

Okay...here's what it took to create this spooky spot.

Gothic looking fencing from Home Depot.  They're just plastic.  Purchased last year for the big parade in our home town.

Tombstones from Dollar Tree this year.

Ghosts created from really cheap sheets from Walmart, black marker and some glow-in-the-dark paint.

Ghost supports are tomato spirals - they're supposed to support your tomatoes, but they don't seem to work well for us - but they're perfect for ghosts.

Little (misshapen) ghost heads made from plastic store bags and newspaper.  Heads are tied with a ribbon.

It's windy here today and the ghosts just look like they're floating above the garden.  I hope I don't jump if I see them moving out of the corner of my eye.  

I have to say I love how the orange nasturtium pops against the black of the tombstones.  What a happy accident!

More Creative Bee?  Singing Bee?

Do NOT read this post until after the Halloween Bakeathon!  

Okay, did they leave?  You'll let me know if they come back, right?

Well, I'm just dying to show you what I made for my friends for their birthdays.   All three of us have birthdays within a month of each other and we usually exchange our birthday gifts at the annual Halloween Bakeathon so they tend to have the same theme....Halloween!  We all love this holiday, especially the More Creative Bee.

So I decided to try my hand at some collage art with the help of my newest Cricut cartridge "Pumpkin Carving."  

I started off by painting some art canvases with black acrylic paint.  Now I just used regular old craft paint which might not have been that great an idea.  I had to put on three coats to finally get everything covered.  

Then I took some scrapbook paper and tore the edges to make the background.

The Graphics Fairy came in handy for this next step.  I took a couple of scary looking ladies and added the Graphics Fairy witch hat to them.  Thank you Graphics Fairy!

I cut out a pumpkin and a "boo" with the beloved Cricut.  

Tucked my new little witches behind the pumpkin and Mod Podged it all together.

So what have you tried lately?  A project?  A new recipe?  

I'm also going to make some Cinnamon Dolce syrup for lattes today!  I made homemade vanilla syrup the other day and it was so delicious.  

Would you care for a Cinnamon Dolce latte?  I'd love to make one for you in a pumpkin mug!

A Very Special Pink Table

Happy Pink Saturday!

I've recently shared the tables the More Creative Bee and I did for our County Fair.  Today I'd like to share a special table we created in 2006 for the fair.  We wanted to create a Pink Ribbon Table for Breast Cancer Awareness.  Most of the credit for this one has to go to the More Creative Bee (yep, that's how she got her name - she is WAY more creative than I am).  

We wanted to honor some of our friends who had suffered from breast cancer so we created a pink ribbon table.

We used a white tablecloth as the base and then ran pink ribbon along the four edges of the table.  On the ribbon we applied the names of friends and friends of friends who had or have breast cancer.  Strewn about the table were little loops of pink ribbon.

We used some lovely china that belongs to the More Creative Bee's mom.  (She could probably have a blog just dedicated to all of her great sets of dishes.)  The flatware was sterling that also belongs to the More Creative Bee's mom.  The crystal is my mom's.

The centerpiece was a piece of pink Depression glass that we put a candle in and pink rose petals and more pink ribbon loops.

One of my favorite things we did at this table was to have two special friends of ours as two of the guests.  Both of these sweet ladies have survived breast cancer.  It made it that much more special to me that we included and honored them.

It's All About a Simple Halloween Craft

Just a quick craft.  I did a google search on this and didn't find much except where to buy these. 

What could I have been looking for you ask?  

Why bleeding candles of course.  Haven't you been looking everywhere for how to make these?

Well, I came up with an idea - I probably saw this somewhere, but the recesses of my brain will not release that information - to use an old white candle of mine and a little red votive to make my bleeding candles.

Wanna' know how I did it?  Ooooh!  A tutorial!  A bleeding candle tutorial!

Here's the supplies you need:

A white or black candle or really any color of your choosing (I used one I've already burned and I think that might be the best way to go

A red candle that has color all the way through

A match/lighter

A plate, foil, wax paper, etc. to catch the drips

Step 1:  

Light the red candle

Step 2:  

Let it burn for a bit and then gently pour the wax off onto the candle.  

Step 3:  

Keep pouring red wax onto the candle until it is satisfactory to you

Step 4:

Sit back and enjoy the accolades for your really cool bleeding candles that you didn't pay $12 for.  (Yes, that's really the lowest price I found for buying bleeding candles.  My cost was $0 because I already had the white candles, the red candle and some matches.)

Baby Bee was very impressed with this.  Just don't tell her how easy these were to make.  

So what have you made for Halloween or fall this year?  I still have to put my yard ghosts up this weekend.  Oh!  And you know the kitchen garden?  It has turned into a very satisfactory little graveyard!

Reader Bee's Birthday

Let me introduce you again to my niece - Reader Bee!

Reader Bee recently celebrated her 11th birthday and she had a carnival theme.  Reader Bee and I love to get crafty and creative together so she came over and we worked on a few little projects to make the party fun and festive.

Yumm.....food!

She had a cupcake walk!  So fun!

Oooo....more food!

Games!  She borrowed a bunch of our lawn games - ladder ball, beanbag toss, and our spoon & egg race.

I painted faces!  I have never done it before and it was fun!  I painted hearts, cherries, rainbows, butterflies, and ladybugs to name a few.  

Wood Bee is a math teacher so I painted pi on his face.  He had the square root of 2 on the other cheek.

Don't the girls look like they are having fun?

And here's my Reader Bee!  She wanted a crown and an 11 painted on her face.  

Happy Birthday Reader Bee!  Your auntie loves you!

Reader Bee and I should probably go into business together creating kids birthday parties.  We always have fun coming up with party ideas and decorating for them.

What Are You Going to Be for Halloween?

Have you given much thought to what you're going to dress up as for Halloween?

Baby Bee starts thinking about her costume for next year on Nov. 1, but she changes her mind so much we don't commit to anything until the first of October.

In actuality Baby Bee will be a ghost bride.  Not quite the pink nirvana she might have dreamed up but it sure fits the budget a lot better!
