But I'll be honest. The cover was what drew me to this vintage book sitting in the antique store.
But then I read the title and I knew I was going to buy it no matter what.
Luckily it was only $4.50 so it didn't break the bank. I bought it about 15 years ago.
It was published in 1928 by the Young Womens Christian Association and this is the fourth printing.
I hope you can read the titles of the different chapters. The book is so charmingly written.
As I was looking it through for this post, I found some handwritten notes and prayers nestled in the pages. I even found a dress receipt from 1977 from the Vanity Fair Frock Shop for a navy dress for $75. I'm thinking $75 was probably a lot of money back 33 years ago.
It also makes me think this book must have been treasured long after it was given to Virginia Pierce back in 1928.
If you ever come across this book, I highly recommend picking up a copy.
Do you have any books you've discovered that inspire you?
Today I'm linking up with Suzanne over at Colorado Lady for Vintage Thingie Thursday. Hope you enjoyed seeing my little treasured book and I hope you enjoy the other treasures being shared.
Thanks for stopping by!
What a great find! I love vintage books, too.
ReplyDeleteFun find! It would be fun to read the letters and get a feel for the previous owner!
ReplyDeleteI don't know which is more special - the book or the notes inside. I think the notes - amazing what I could read in your photograph. What an amazing find.
ReplyDeleteHappy VTT.
So glad you are feeling better! I guess all of us teachers love our books! Those KINDLE things are very popular with people but to me there is no subsitute for holding a book in your hands and turning the pages one at a time. Loved your post about organizing. I love, love to organize...wish I could make a living doing it for others but definitely couldn't in our area. I buy lots of clothes for my g'daughter on ebay...I think it can be very profitable for both buyer and seller. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteI love vintage books. That looks so interesting. I will have to look out for it. Thanks for sharing, Sherry
ReplyDeleteThe cover on the book is very pretty!! To answer your question... I read that several vanity pieces were made in the moonstone pattern- cigarette case, powder box, perfume bottle, bud vase, etc. I'm glad to hear you keep watches in yours. :-)
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful book you found! And yup $75 is a lot of money for me to spend these days on a dress!
ReplyDeleteWhoa, $75 was a lot of money then! What fun to have a receipt from a dress shop from that time. Sounds like a neat book to read.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful book! I love that there were personal notes inside. I loved reading the titles too. Great find!
ReplyDeleteHappy VTT,
Sally

ReplyDeleteI am wondering what "on the eve of being bored" is about.
ReplyDeleteDon't you just love reading those old books? I love how they bring you back into their time.
ReplyDeleteThat's a great book! Just imagine how many other people read those pages and sat thoughtfully reading this book! Very nice!
ReplyDeleteI think you're probably correct. That would have been quite a sum then. What a treasure to have found this!

What a great find. I love old books, too. The wording is great!
ReplyDeleteI love books like that! One of my favorite finds was an old autograph book from the early 1900s - complete with that perfect, spidery cursive handwriting. Very cool!
ReplyDeleteYour vintage book is beautiful inside and out! I love the treasures you found tucked between the pages:)
ReplyDeleteOh my I just love old books, yours is darling!
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Olivia
Okay, Blogger accepted my last novelette of a comment and I will continue here, if you don't mind.
ReplyDeleteAfter the stone wall is finished (just a few tiny things to do still), Tom will begin renovations on the milk house. It's going to be converted into a garden shed and Tom will use old windows found in the barn to build a green house. It feels like a dream but that's the plan!
Lastly, this post with the vintage book, well, it made me well up. It's touched me!
Love, Katy Noelle
