My Grandma _ _ _ _ _

Can you fill in the blanks?

Does that give you a clue?

It's only five letters long.

Does this help?

_ _ _ _ _

Still not sure?

How about this clue?

I'm sure you're figuring it out now.

But if not.....

These are what I call my Grandma Bowls.

Every single one of these bowls belonged to one of my grandmas.

I think they might be Bauer bowls since all my grandmas lived in California, but they are not marked.

All my grandmas are gone now but these bowls can bring them back to me in an instant.
(Especially if I saw raw turnips in them.  Grandma F. always had raw turnips with dinner and I like them.  Never did go for the liver and onions though.)

Thanks for your visit today.

Do you have treasures that take you back in time?

Were you able to hold on to those family treasures?

No one in my family wanted these but I am so glad I scooped them up.

I'm sharing my vintage Grandma Bowls
at

Hope you can buzz on over there and see all the other lovely vintage thingies.

  4. I've been collecting Bauer pottery for about 15 years and those beauties are Bauer. None of mine have that kind of history, I may remember the street sale or auction where I bought them, unlike your memories of the bowls sitting on Gramma's table at meal time. You are very fortunate.

  6. They sure look like Bauer to me! My grandma had some too, I specifically remember a big yellow one. But one of my cousins must have them, cuz my sisters and I don't. Not that we wouldn't have wanted them, but the cousins lived closer than we did and most things were gone... Anyway... your bowls are wonderful! And I can't believe no one else wanted them.

  9. This is one of the cutest and sweetest posts I have ever read. It is really special...very colorful and VERY poignant. I am such a sentimentalist that I can relate to your love of these bowls so well....and they are all in such good condition. I feel the same way about my mother’s things I use every day. Some are ragged and close to worn out, but I love them passionately. Thanks for following the progress I am making with my little boxes and your positive words. This swap experience is so new to me.

    Hugs,

  17. I have two little Bauer bowls that were my Grandma's, too! One is yellow and the other is blue. They are custard bowls with little handles on the side - the blue one has a lid. I love them and keep them out on my desk all the time.

  20. Wow...you're a teacher, AND you blog! That explains the coffee. :-)

Yeah, I've heard 7th grade is a tough one, though I kinda have a feeling kindergarten is the worse (I couldn't imagine have 10-20 of my own kids at 5 in a room and keeping them in check, and having them learn anything to boot!)

Thanks for commenting on my apples! You're in my prayers for the new school year. May you have nice supportive parents, enthusiastic and well-behaved students, no staff drama, and most of all JOY!

  22. Hi Sweet Bee,
It is fun to use things that belonged to our grandmothers. Yes, I have a few pieces that are for either every day use or on display. And not alone from grandma's, the aunts are very well presented just the same.
    Have a nice day!

  25. Isn't it great when others are just focused on now. I have a lot of vintage memories cause other family members are the mentality...
    Those old things!?
I have a wooden dough bowl that was my great-great-grandmothers. It is in great shape for being over 100 :)
