A Pinterest Dinner

I love to try new recipes!

So, I went over to my Yumptious board on Pinterest and found a couple of interesting recipes to try.

The weather has finally cleared up and the sun shined most of the day today.
It feels like spring again.
Yeah!
So we needed something inspired by spring.

I always like to have a nice dinner when Sewing Bee comes over on Sunday nights.  But I wanted something easy too.

Voila!

Baby Bee and I made Spinach, Asparagus, and Feta Quiche!

Here's how ours looked.....
You can see the original recipe here.  It was soooo good.
We also had sliced strawberries with sugar and balsamic vinegar!  Yummmy!

We don't usually do much for dessert but I had some marscapone cheese I needed to use before it went bad and I remember seeing a recipe for a tiramasu bundt cake over on my - yep, you guessed it - Yumptious board.

I have to confess, baking cakes from scratch has never been my forte, but I gave it a shot and.......

this is how mine turned out.  (I think my oven is hotter than it says!  I need to get an oven thermometer and check it out.)

Tasted delicious (if slightly overdone) but not nearly as pretty as the original one here.
But if I was a betting bee, I bet you'd still like to try mine even if it didn't turn out as lovely as its inspiration.
Am I right????

What have you made from Pinterest?
Wanna' just come over here for dinner and I'll cook YOU something from Pinterest instead?

Thanks for buzzing by!
P.S.  And later this week we're trying this pin and this pin.  I wasn't kidding about LOVING to try
new recipes.

Estate Sale & Thrift Finds!

Oh it's been so gloomy here in Central California!

We had Rainy Day schedules for three days with the students.
 THREE WHOLE DAYS!
No recess for the kids and no recess for the teachers!  Thunder woke us up in the middle of the night and - this is how rare lightning is in our part of the country - we had to keep the kids in class at the very end of the day because of a severe ground lightning threat.  We don't have a procedure for that!  It was pouring rain and parents were waiting in the car and didn't know why we weren't releasing the kids.  The teachers were all calling each other, saying......what do we do?  I bet we'll have a procedure now!

Well Baby Bee and I had to get out today.
So we went to our favorite thrift store and to an estate sale.

We got there late, so there weren't a lot of things left, but I did find these...
I think they are pudding cups.  (I LOVE pudding - especially chocolate pudding!)
didn't realize I already had a piece from Universal Potteries of Cambridge, Ohio....
This sweet milk jug.  It isn't labeled on the bottom, but after researching the company, I'm pretty sure this is also from Universal Potteries.

At the thrift store I spent $0.75 on this cute sherbet glass - maybe the start of a new collection!
(If I only ever find one, do you have any ideas on what to do with it?)

Not a big haul, but delightful nonetheless.

And thanks to all that gloomy weather, I'm making homemade split pea soup for dinner tonight.

Smells so good and yummy for the tummy and soothing for the soul!
Thanks for buzzing in!

A Cardi Addiction

First off, what's the correct spelling?

Cardy?  Or cardie?  Or should it be cardi?

Well, no matter, I can still write about one of my obsessions.....

Cardigans!
(If you follow my What a Sweet Bee Would Wear board on Pinterest, you might have already picked up on that.)

So.....due to a lack of creativity on my part (even over my Spring Break) you get to see my cardi collection in all it's glory and I get to refold them and put them away more neatly than they were.
Cutter Bee was over and she had the brilliant idea to spread them out like this.

We counted 21 cardigans.  (She called me a cardi hoarder!  Can you believe that?)

Here's the obligatory overhead shot.

Baby Bee might not be the only one with an aqua/turquoise/lime green thing going on.

I count 5 cardies alone that fit that color palette.
Teacher Bees?
Are you getting tired of seeing me in these colors????
I hope not 'cause I'm addicted to these!
This one's a particular favorite and I only wear it during spring!
Cherry girls?
You know you love this one.  Pretty soft green with cherries!
(I have to confess - it's Quacker Factory from QVC!)
And here's another particular favorite!  It's such a soft lavender with ribbon embroidery all over it.  This is a picture of the sleeve.  Isn't it sweet?

Well, I hope you enjoyed my tour of cardigans.
And - double bonus here - if you come over for a latte or a nice dinner and you get a little chilled (61 year old houses are known for this), I might let you borrow a cardi.  (Just not the cherry one!)

I've Been to Panem

I couldn't help it.

It started out innocently enough.  It was just a simple paperback novel.  I'd heard about it.  Some of my friends had mentioned it.  The idea intrigued me.  And I definitely wanted to read it before I saw the movie.
And Katniss had me.  She had me like she captured the hearts of the people of Panem.

I loved Peeta and Gale.  Haymitch piqued my interest.  The history of this Panem and District 12, Prim, the Capitol, Cinna, and President Snow all fascinated me.

So, I've been in Panem for the past few days.

I read The Hunger Games and hungered for more.  (So glad I didn't have to wait for them to be published.)
Finished Catching Fire at 1:00 AM on Easter Sunday.

Wrapped it all up today with Mockingjay when I should be getting ready to return to school.
But ultimately the flawed, self-aware Katniss is the one who captivated me for the last few days.  And now, I'm sorry it's over.  I couldn't wait to get to the end, but now I'm sad.  I have no doubt these characters will haunt me for a long time.

Have these books captured you?
Are there others that had the same effect on you?
Will you be going to Panem?

Vintage Style Coffee

Sometimes it's just the little things that can make a soul happy.

My mom, Baby Bee, and I ran some errands in the big city today.  One of our stops was Macy's.  Haven't really been there for quite awhile.  (ummm....that was not the little thing that made my soul happy)

So, we're at Macy's and HAVE you heard of this Martha Stewart?  Yeah, she makes some wicked cool kitchen tools.  This Martha lady has this line of vintage style enamel canisters.  She really has a good eye.
So.....I've been needing an airtight container for my espresso.  The glass jar looks pretty, but my coffee would start to get stale before I finished a whole pound.
(uh oh - need some new java soon!)
And I bet you can guess where this is going, right?

I found a new coffee canister!
With a gasket to keep the coffee fresh!

And a label in JADEITE GREEN!

See, I told you, it's the little things!
(And it was on sale - under $10!)

Cannot wait to make my latte tomorrow morning!

Pssst......can you tell I've been playing on PicMonkey?

And Martha has flour, sugar, and tea canisters too!  Ssssssweet!

Oh.....
and one more thing.....

Susan Branch is a bad influence on me.
Do you see what she made me do?
Love Susan, but I'm blaming it all on her.
Yep, that's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Picnik and Google+

Today I joined Google+.

Why?

Just for Picnik.  I'm going to miss you Picnik.

While I was there, I played around and made this image.

(Remember, I'm just playing....although I am having a current love affair with aqua and red.)

So, for those of who are going to miss (sob) Picnik, I've got good news.
The Google+ photo editing works JUST like Picnik.
Same fonts,
same effects,
same easy to use format.

But,
on the down side,
you have to join Google+
and
even worse
it's just not as cute and fun as Picnik.

::::::::EDITED ALERT:::::::

I just got a comment from Jenn over at PicMonkey and I think I'm in love.
(Shhh....don't tell Worker Bee....I'm not sure he'd understand.)

PicMonkey is from some of the same team that brought us that marvelous Picnik!
Go!
Now!
 Check it out!
What are you still doing here?
Okay, you can stick around long enough to leave me a comment, but then go straight to

Buzzingly,
