What Are You Reading?

I dropped Baby Bee off at piano lessons to run down to the library tonight and look what I brought home.  Books!  Glorious books!

So I headed out to those oh so comfy patio chairs and . . . . .

oh no . . . . . . .
Brody had invaded my space!

Stop glowering at me Brody!

We have two cats, Sam and Brody. Sam owns me and Brody owns Baby Bee.  Do you see her little beard?  Brody means bearded one in - oh I forget in what language - Gaelic maybe?
Now shoo Brody so I can share my new books with my visitors.
First, I finally got my Square Foot Gardening book.  We're using this as a guide for our new kitchen garden.  But uh oh - it says zucchini takes up nine squares.  Yikes the website we used to design the garden before the book arrived said it only took one.  Hmmm - what will we do?  Any ideas?  Can you grow zucchini vertically?  That's what we planned to do.  Advice would be welcome here.
This next one is by an author my mother, the Sewing Bee, raves about.  I haven't read anything by her before but I'm looking forward to it.  Have you read anything by Dorothy Garlock?
Then I found a biography of Louisa May Alcott.  I don't read biographies a lot, but this last summer I read a biography on Laura Ingalls Wilder and her daughter Rose Wilder Lane after we went to Laura's house in the beautiful Ozarks of Missouri.  They have a sweet little museum there dedicated to the Little House books.  So we'll see if this reveals any scandalous tidbits on Louisa.  I sure hope not!
I also requested this book after reading her interview over at Shellagh's Ticking and Toile.  I don't really sew.  I think I can in my imagination but when the fabric hits the needle I'm hopeless.  Maybe this will be the summer I tackle some of these projects.  I think I can, I think I can, I think I can, right?  The projects in here look so fun and kind of easy.
And finally a book I've been dreaming of getting my hands on . . . . . .
Do you have this book?  Ahh - bliss sounds good doesn't it?

  2. Your setting in wonderful and kitty so pretty. I think the zucchini likes to lay on the ground. The vine kind of attach themselves to the earth, like the pumpkins. Good luck.

  3. Zuchini like most squash grows big and fat bushes..When the main plant is kinda thru making squash..a section of the squash will start developing a big bush area..and so on and so on.
This is what I have done..many times over...Plant 2/5 bushes...wait 3-4 weeks and plant 2/5 bushes again..ect...This way you can harvest off your main plant...when it is ready to go kaput..your next bounty should be ready..dig up the old..and replant.

You saw how big my plants are..hubbie planted wayyyy to much...we will replant this weekend for the stagger crop.

You could also just let it "run" out of your bed on the surrounding ground..

  5. I do have the blogging for bliss book but haven't read any of the others. They look good. Zuc. takes up a lot of space because it's like squash. I don't know if that helps or not but good luck!

  6. Blogging For Bliss is the only one of these I've read. And I won it in a contest from a blog! The others look wonderful. I shall put them on the list. Oh, let Brody sit on your lap. He doesn't scowl that seriously.

  7. I am currently reading "The Teaberry Strangler" by Laura Childs. It's the latest of her Tea Shop Mystery series. I am writing a review of the book on Tuesday May 11th. Stop by and see what I think.

I have read Blogging for Bliss and the sewing title as well.

  10. Looks like you have a great library! We grew zucchini out of a 1 metre plot and pretty soon there was more plant outside the plot than in! It just grew towards the sun and only the messy vines were left in the actual vege garden!
