Vintage Nighttime Yahtzee!

Tonight was a lovely evening outside.
The Sewing Bee went out to dinner with us and when we came back to Sweet Bee Cottage we decided to play a little Yahtzee!   Such a fun game for Baby Bee and it really helps her adding skills.
My Yahtzee game was originally my parents.  They were married in 1960 and the game instructions say it's from 1961.   Pretty vintage, don't you think?  Apparently the game was invented by a wealthy Canadian couple to play on their yacht.  Thanks Canada!
Can you see how yellowed the scorepads are?  As I was handing them out to everyone I found old scorepads from my childhood.
One said Kari on it.  I haven't seen Kari since the 8th grade.  Another said Stephanie on it and I can't even remember the last time I saw Stephanie.  Fun to see how my handwriting has changed over the years - from printing to just learning cursive to my signature today.
While we were outside playing the game we had some yummy chocolate ice cream and some tasty Trader Joe's Joe-Joes.  (Joe-Joes are just like Oreos only better!)
What games have you enjoyed all your life?

Do you ever play games outside?  I highly recommend it.  It was just a lovely and pleasant summer evening.

Well come on out and enjoy Suzanne's Colorado Lady Vintage Thingie Thursday.
I'm sure you'll find many fun vintage finds.

Thanks so much for coming by!  And don't worry there's still plenty of ice cream left for you although the Joe-Joes are going pretty fast.

  1. That looked like so much fun...I want a backyard like that... I live in West Texas with flat land and very few trees... So I guess I will keep on wishing.

  3. This looks like such a perfect CA evening! I've always been a big fan of Yahtzee and recently we've been playing Double 15 dominoes every night. Before that it was Rummikub. Always playing cards too. I have a scorepad for any game-playing here that I date and include the names of all players so we can look back on what we played and who we played it with. Makes me sorry you're so far away... :-)

  7. It is wintry here in Australia so it's nice to see your outdoor party! We had yahtzee growing up, and now we've made our own set by buying dice and replacement score sheets, but it's just not the same ... love your vintage set!

  9. I don't remember one carried over from my youth (other than Monolopy which causes hurt spats in my household now!!). But we are big board game players here; we love The Game of Life and Skip-Bo. And when I visit friends in the city, Phase 10 and Yatzee come out.

  11. I remember playing Yahtzee, but I haven't played any games for many years. The first thing I ever bought on eBay was a vintage game my sister wanted.

  15. I loved yahtzee as a kid but haven't thought about it in years. Thanks for the walk down memory lane! I wish I could hang outside in the evening, but our yard is SOOOOOOO buggy at night, it would take a million tiki torches and citronella candles just to make it bearable, lol!

  19. LOVE the game Yahtzee, and always have!! I have the boxed set (though NOT the vintage one!.. LOVE that!).. I have a version of it on my computer, and I have a hand held electronic one that goes EVERYWHERE with me in my purse! If ever I'm stuck somewhere, in the car, or at some appointment, I always have a book, my MP3 player, and my yahtzee game to keep the doldrums away!! ~tina

  21. What a fun way to spend a summer evening! I haven't played Yahtzee in forever! We like playing a game called Pigs. You toss 2 plastic pigs and earn points by how the pigs land. Simple and fun!

  22. Oh, how cool is that to have a game from your childhood. Me and my kids used to play that years ago. Isn't scary to find things from your childhood in antique shops. I've even found things in museums. That really made me feel OLD! lol. I'm glad you had such a fun night.

  26. Thank you for visiting and your sweet comments. I'm so glad you did! I just love your post! I love to play Yahtzee! I have to beg my boys to play with me now! They swear I cheat, though I don't! I can't remember if I've ever played outside. If I did it was when we used to have a camper and go camping. I will have to see if I can coax them out one night if our temps ever go back down some. It's always so neat to look over old score sheets and see the names of others from old games. So cool that you have a Yahtzee that old, hang on to it! This is a great post!

  27. Good to see that people still play games...and what a lovely little trip down memory lane for you.
We used to play lots of board games when the kids were growing up but now my hubby and I just enjoy some quiet time together doing jigsaw puzzles.
    Warmest Hugs,

    P.S. thanks for stopping by.

  28. I haven't paid Yahtzee in years...didn't know how it was invented. My grandson LOVES to play board games and card games. He's only 7 but he beats me more than I beat him. Sure do wish we had a Trader Joe's nearby! Thanks for being a follower on my blog.
