Need Some Advice Please....

Hello friends!

I know you guys won't let me down.  I am trying to decide if I should keep a lampshade I just bought for my little silver teapot lamp.

Choice #1 -
I don't LURVE it, but it works - uh, sort of.
Thought I'd give you a couple of angles to help you decide.  I liberated this shade from another lamp.  I tend to do that a lot - mix up shades and lamps that is.
This is just a simple round shade with a linen-like shade and a white band around the top and bottom.

Now for Choice #2
I just love the shape of this shade.
 But are the proportions right?
One of my favorite things about this new possibility is how it mimics the shape of the lamp.  As I look at it in these pictures it's really growing on me.

So....
which one should I use?

Or are they both bad choices?
Thanks for your buzz!

  1. Option number two - definitely - and it needs some added color... :-D

  2. I like #two. I love the teapot lamp! I one too! Imagine you and I having something alike :) LOL

  3. I'm going against the flow and picking number one.

  4. I'm voting the second one. I have the sister to your lamp. I'll have to send you her picture so you can see her "hat" ;-)

  5. Thinking of your style and your love of decorations, I would vote for #1 with a little embellishment.

  6. I think the teapot is so pretty and although I like the shade of number two, I think the angles distract from the pot itself, therefore it's number one for me, Char

  7. Okay, I'm going to think out of the box, take chance and and say neither. Yikes! Yes, I said it. I think that silver teapot needs to have a floral lampshade. I think that lamp is awesome and the floral lampshade will say English Cottage Teatime..or, Sweet Bee Cottage Tea Time. ;)Alyssa of Boston Bee

  8. I'm going with Alyssa, neither, I think it needs a little small shade or a a bracket that makes it sit less high without covering the teapot, I would say a yummy cream on cream design or cream and white. depending on where you will put it but that way it can be moved to more spots without conlficting colors. You can always have more than one shade or look for a tutorial on doing your own. Awesome lamp though! Happy New Year Hugs!

  9. Yay! My favorite past time is putting lamps and shades together..lol. I think, definitely shade number two for the shape, but I agree with Alyssa that the shade should be more cottage-y to complement the lovely, teapot base. I think the shade would be perfect recovered in a rose or plain linen with a little ruffle to add some cottage charm. I have shown several lamp shade recovers on my blog if you need ideas. I can't wait to see what you come up with!

  10. #1, perhaps tea stain the shade (if it's polyester, use watered down acrylic paint, polyester and man made fabrics don't dye/stain well).

  12. Okay, I'm a clueless dude, but I like choice one. There's the man's perspective.

  13. I'm going with shape #1. And I agree with all those who say the shade needs some sort of soft color/stain/fabric. But whichever one you pick, I know you will make it look great!

  14. I say #2! I have a similar lamp and I put a smaller round shade that is kind of taupe in color.... It is a tough lamp.

Hope you had a great Christmas!

    Happy New Year!

  15. I'd vote for the shape of #1...but with a different (shorter) harp so that less of the "post" above the teapot shows. Proportion looks good, but it looks like it sits a little too high.

  17. Hi, just wanted to say thanks again for visiting my blog.
I am going to chime in and say I like shade one. Shade two is competing with the teapot.
I would maybe paint some thin stripes in a color that is in the room you are putting the lamp to add some pop.
Love the teapot made into a lamp!

  18. I, too, change shades around with various lamps....I really like the color of the second shade...but I think either would work.

  19. First of all, what a lovely warm background you have on your blog right now!
Now, about the choices: I know the problem, the shades never seem to be right for the foot. From both choices #2 seems best, but if you cannot decide I would take the foot to a specialist with shades and go for one that you say immediately: 100% right!
(I am talking from my experience with not-quite-the-right-shade).
Wonderful idea to have a tea/coffeepot as a foot!
Happy New Year and may there be brightness for all the Bees around you in the coming year.
    Warm wishes,
    from a (snow) melting Holland,

  20. I like #2 (lampshade, that is teeheehee). Don't second guess yourself, girl!! If you like it.. wear it, use it, decorate with it, eat it, enjoy it. Love yourself, God made ya and He sure does.

  21. Hmmm...I'm not loving either one. #2 seems a little too fancy or maybe it's that the shape is taking away from the cute lamp itself. #1 looks entirely too plain for such an unusual lamp but it could be embellished to better suit the style of the lamp....maybe some fringe. I'm seeing a toile shade in my head for some reason, but that might not go along with your decor. I'm sure you'll get it right...you're the one who has to live with it, not us:)

  22. Love number 2! It really elongates the shape of your teapot! Definitely number 2.

  23. Definitely # 2. You could revamp it with some different fabric to give it a little pizazz.
