Guess Where I Went!

Yep!  The only Hobby Lobby in California opened up about 25 miles from my house!
Road Trip!
(Well, that's not much of a road trip, but still!)
This used to be a Mervyn's which was a department store in California similar to Kohl's.
Ummm.....not the prettiest architecture I've ever seen.
Sort of mid-1970s mall style, wouldn't you say?
Uh oh - apparently every one else in California decided to come to the one and only Hobby Lobby too!
Ahh - not really - but it sure was crowded!
Hamina, hamina, hamina (try reading that out loud and you'll figure out what I mean) I loved these!
Maybe because I have only seen the sun one or two days during my three week Winter Break.
Ooooooo......this ended up in my shopping cart and I used my 40% off coupon.
This is a garden finial and that faucet top just cracked me up!
I was tempted, but I resisted.
Anybody need a jar?
And that isn't even all of the glassware they had.
Canning jars, apothecary jars, candle holders, and on and on!
They even have doll houses!
I mentioned to Worker Bee that I want a doll house and he said, and I quote here, "Why the ______ do you want one of those?"
(I don't usually need to use a blank to quote my husband, so you can tell how excited he was by this idea.)
I'm not sure he's willing to help support a second household.  What do you think?
This also landed in my cart.  Couldn't use the coupon because it was already on sale.  This is for Baby Bee's birthday at the end of February.  I'm going to use it for the invitations.  Yeah, I'll let you try to figure out that one while I try to figure out how my plan is going to work.
Now these spoke to me, especially the black ones, but they also didn't end up in my cart.
Ahhh....here's all of California at the check out line.  Or maybe it just felt like it.

So, dear friends, what's the BEST thing you've ever picked up from Hobby Lobby?

Oh, I forgot to show you the paper clay I bought so I can make a snowman head like Elizabeth at

Well, I've really got to get back into the school groove because I'll be seeing my darling third graders on Monday!  I've missed them.  Hope they've missed me too!
Oh! And I haven't written my thank you notes yet either!  Better get to it!

Thanks for buzzing in and thank you all my new followers!
I'm making my homemade macaroni and cheese with asiago, gruyere, and cheddar cheese for dinner.  Should I set a place for you?

Also, I probably won't be able to visit and post as much this next week as school starts back up again!
I'll miss you guys, but I'll be back!

  2. you are sooo lucky! Florida's nearest HobLob is 3 hours north of me right by Disney. My hubby talks about taking a trip to Disney and I always ask if we can stop and let me shop on the way home ;)

  3. No HobLob's near me, think I might google it for giggles and see where the closest one is though. Have jun:@)

  5. I love our local Hobby Lobby...did you know they are a Christian owed business? They play Christian music on the overhead speakers and you won't find them open on the Lord's day here in Texas...they also pay 10% tithe to the church...Enjoy...your Hobby Lobby. Blessings to you on this cold rainy Texas Lord's day! :)

  6. I have only been to a Hobby Lobby once in Georgia and was totally in love but alas we were never to meet again...too bad, so sad....My sweet, retired hubby goes everywhere with me and it has really curtailed my shopping. I fight for a few things but no impulse purchases anymore...lol...Loved your cute post today.

  7. I have a Hobby Lobby just 2 miles from my house! Look forward to July when they clearance everything out so they can restock for the fall! You get incredible bargains, then. Enjoyed your road trip!

  8. Oh, I am glad you finally got to experience Hobby Lobby. Being from CA, I remember Mervyn's. One opened in our area the summer I graduated from high school and many of the girls I went to school with went to work there....when they closed some 20 years later, there was still a couple of those girls working there.

Getting back into the swing of things....hope it all is smooth sailing :)

    Blessings!
    Gail

  10. Not to make you feel bad, but I now have two Hobby Lobbys in my area! I shop the sales mostly! Love the after holiday markdowns. I think my best buy from them was last summer when I got my favorite Flamingo for my deck!

  11. I love Hobby Lobby! There's one right here in my town - well, it's about 15 minutes to town, but you know what I mean! Anyway, I especially love strolling around, taking my time and realizing at some point that I am humming along with an old favorite hymn - I love that they play Christian music!

I got a $60 gift card from hubby for Christmas, and I bought mostly cardstock (50% off) and some fabric, glue, etc. But reg. price everything I got would have been over $100, so I was very pleased with my bargain shopping! My favorite deal of the day? A core'dinations cardstok stack regularly $30 for $15 - love it!!!

Thanks for sharing your road trip with us!

  12. I am so jealous about Hobby Lobby but
that would mess with my pledge to be more frugal right? Well, there's coupons I guess. And yes, the plates are Nantucket basket. My MIL gave me 12 plates she picked up at the outlet. I would love to finish out the set with cups saucers and the like but whew they are pricey. Don't know that I will. I need to go to the outlet myself and look.

  13. Girl, I'm just going to admit that I have two Hobby Lobby's within 10 minutes of my house and I rarely go. Obviously I need to go more often!

  15. Good for you! I love our Hobby Lobby. We have so few resources in town, but things are getting a bit better as we grow. John is great about going to HL with me and we just made a jaunt a couple of evenings ago. I needed another skein of yarn for my Sadie Blanket which I will post about soon. I also picked up an adorable mug (need to take a pic) to use at school. It has the cutest cupcake on it! Happy crafting and don't forget to post your snow people. I would like to make those too. Too bad we are not back door neighbors, then we could craft them together over a couple of cups of coffee.

Hey! I recognize that architecture. What city is the new Hobby Lobby in? I am from N Cal and miss is all so much. ~Kelly

  20. I went to Hobby Lobby too!! I was there Monday. Oh my gosh. It is amazing! I didn't spend much. Just bought some paper. I totally missed the dollhouse aisle. Where was it? I'm going back soon. I saw a few things I need to bring home!!

  21. That's about how close our Hobby Lobby is! So I've only gone once, because until I started blogging, I had never heard of HL. So much fun! I was just thinking yesterday, yes I really was, that I need to make a return trip!

  23. I am so envious! I have never been to Hobby Lobby, but I hear about them all the time in blogland and I want to go! Good luck with school on Monday. I am going back to teach monday too, but my student are not cute 3rd graders - they are obnoxious high school students.
Thanks for visiting my blog and leaving me nice comments!
    hugs,

  24. We don't have Hobby Lobby here in the arctic. You must have a dollhouse. Believe me, you NEED a dollhouse. It's the only household I can control!

  25. I know my husband thinks the same thing about all of the toys and dolls that I have. I recently acquired two tin dollhouses from the 60's and I'm sure he was thrilled! ;) I also saw those dollhouses at my local Hobby Lobby and my creative juices started flowing too!

  26. Lucky you! For some reason, Hobby Lobby sounds like so much more than Michael's or Joann's.... not sure why, maybe because half of the blogging world seems to have one and I (we) don't here in Washington!!

Looks like you had a great time, even with the crowds.

  31. Spill it girl! Just where in Cali is this Hobby Lobby? If it's 25 minutes from you it can't be more than about an hour and a half from me! And I'm hoping it's more on the hour side of your place. Am I the only one who didn't know and wasn't there? I need to come out from under my rock more often!

  32. How fun!!! Road trip for sure. I will have to go and check it out. I went to my first Hobby Lobby last Sept. when we were visiting my sister n law in IL. It's a great store.
Maybe they will open one in Modesto where our old Mervyn's was. I only live blocks away from there..wouldn't that be "fun".
    Big hugs, Elizabeth

  37. I have to drive several miles to the nearest Hobby Lobby so I don't go very often but I love to make a trip and spend a couple of hours roaming the store...they have the best stuff!

  38. I really like Hobby Lobby. Sometimes I buy fabric there, but usually it's seasonal stuff. My favorite purchase is a "shabby chic" kind of box I bought for the kids' bathroom. It sits on their counter and holds lotion, brushes, etc. I also have a sewing caddy from there, it's actually a utensil holder but it works perfectly for me.

  39. Oh, Woo Hooness for you! A Hobby Lobby! That's wonderful! I have to drive a little over 30 miles to get to the one closet to me - I don't care and make that trip at least once a week! :)
Love all your finds! Hope your school ti,e is going well.
Thanks for popping in to see me.
    Be a sweetie,

  41. It's nice to see what's keeping everyone busy out there. LOL. We're going to be busy ourselves shoveling mucho snow tomorrow! Thanks for stopping by and for the fun tour. We don't have that store here so I always enjoy a little cyberbrowsing. Jane F.

  47. HOBBY LOBBY!!!!! Oh my, the drug of choice for me. I bought a dollhouse kit from there about 5+ years ago and this was done while on a shopping trip to find a dress for oldest daughter's wedding. Now don't ask me how we ended up at HL, but we did and the box was so heavy my youngest daughter helped me hide it under my bed. My husband slept over that box for a year. He was bored the next winter and I told him I had a job for him...he didn't grumble (oh he would have had he been with me when I bought it) but he was more amazed that it was under the bed that long. He got it together in about a month's time. I love it...now I just need to decorate it, I have the stuff, just never seem to have the time. There is a picture of it on my blog...come see it when you get a moment :) Love your blog.
