The Kitchen Garden Is Coming Along....

Well we came up with a plan for our raised beds.  We found these . . .
at Home Depot for $2 each.  We needed 18 of them.  This was much cheaper than buying boards or anything else we came up with.  But, beeing the busy bee that I am, I couldn't leave well enough alone and I thought they needed some embellishing.

Our house is this lovely taupey/gray color, the trim is ivory and the windows and most of the doors are black.  (Our front door is red.)  I believed with all my buzzin' heart that these boards needed to be painted black.  So we bought some cheap exterior paint in black from HD.  I then watered it down about so it was half water and half paint.

They look so much nicer.  While I had all the supplies out I painted a bench we had too.  It will also become a part of Sweet Bee Cottage's Kitchen Garden.
I'm also trying to persuade Worker Bee that we should string some lights across the beds for a little more ambiance.

Tomorrow we finish assembling them and start filling in with topsoil and some amendments.  Now we are planning what veggies, herbs, and flowers will fill up our kitchen garden.
Whoa!  Those look crooked.  No need to straighten your computer.

Don't forget, tonight's the last night to enter my 122nd post giveaway!  Just enter by commenting on that post.  You can go there by clicking on the picture on my sidebar.  I'll be drawing a winner tomorrow morning.  (Spring Break, don't you know! No school!)

Now I better go finish scrubbing black paint out from underneath my fingernails.
Thanks for stopping by!

  1. My hubby got our Large garden planted. You name it it's out there! lol

  2. You have been busy! I can't wait to see what it looks like once you have it planted. It has been so wet here we have not done anything to our garden.
    Have fun this week!

  3. Your garden rails look great, Happy planting!

  4. Now that looks like fun. I can't wait to see your progress. We're going tomorrow night to buy some timbers just like those to create landscaping steps. Do you like gardening? I love it, even tho I don't know what I'm doing. Good luck.

  5. I have not done a thing in my yard yet. I better get busy! I am anxious to see your finished beds. Post some more pics when they are done, then come over to help me!!

PS: I hope you know by now that I am quite the kidder!

  6. very nice. I need to do the same thing with my bench.

  7. My eldest will soon start making a vegetable garden for me in our back yard..I'm so excited. I haven't had one in over 10 years...

Can't wait to see the continued progress.

  8. That's going to look great! I love small little kitchen gardens. My hubby always went way overboard when we were doing vegetable gardens. We haven't done it in a few years because of his health. This year my son got very intriguied by the "Topsy Turvey" tomato grower he saw on TV so I bouht him one. It should be interesting!

  9. Good morning! I found you on one of my favorite blogs, A Cottage State Of Mind, and thought I would pop over and introduce myself. Your blog is so cute!!
I do have a question if you don't mind. I am wondering if the logs (I want a top of the ground garden too) are deep enough and how you are hooking them together. I agree that the black is very attractive! Please do show them when they are all finished. That bench is going to be adorable! I just may paint one of mine! :)

The price of those logs was amazing!

  10. Mr. Sahm only grows flowers, and I can't seem to make anything grow but basil and rosemary, which can't be killed if you try. I want to grow lots and lots of veggies, but it never works for me... I really wish you better luck than me!!

  11. Your kitchen garden is going to be great! It'll be so nice to just step out there and snip some fresh herbs. I usually grow some basil and chives in pots on my back porch. I wish I could have a veggie garden, but I get so little sun. Can't wait to follow the progress of your garden!
    Happy Monday!

  12. Love the new color on the benches!!!!!!

Thank you for buzzing by and taking time to leave me a little note. I always enjoy hearing from my friends.
