So this is what third place looks like!

Yep!  That's the place we earned for our Christmas tree we created for the County Fair.  Our category was the fair theme which was "How the West Was Fun."  We also did one of our tables in the fair theme and you can see it here.   So, over coffee and sweets at Panera Bread, we decided to have our tree reflect cowboy fun.  What was fun for cowboys?  How about gamblin, drinkin', and cowboyin'?  How can you make ornaments for that?

Well, first we took some small plastic glasses (okay, communion cups were just the right size) and painted them with paint we mixed to look like whiskey.  Then we took playing cards, glued them together, and sprayed them with floral wood tone paint to make them look old.  Our poker chips were wooden discs also painted and sprayed.  The garland was a rope.  For filler we took bandana print fabric torn into strips that we tied to the branches.  We also had old canning jar lids we painted Cowboy Red and painted brands on them.  Our tree skirt was some cow printed fleece with bandana ties and more painted jar lids.  And now for my favorite - our tree topper - the More Creative Friend took a wire, attached it to the rope and made a lasso!

The last picture was of a tree that wasn't finished yet, but it gives you an idea.  I'm not sure which ones were first and second but I'll find out when my family goes to the County Fair.  Hope you enjoyed seeing all the different ways the theme was interpreted.  Can't wait to see what they come up with next year!

Baby Bee's school carnival is tomorrow night, so it might be a few days before I post again.  Be sure to check back.  I love to have you stop by!

Thanks for stopping by!
