I've Been to Panem

I couldn't help it.

It started out innocently enough.  It was just a simple paperback novel.  I'd heard about it.  Some of my friends had mentioned it.  The idea intrigued me.  And I definitely wanted to read it before I saw the movie.
And Katniss had me.  She had me like she captured the hearts of the people of Panem.

I loved Peeta and Gale.  Haymitch piqued my interest.  The history of this Panem and District 12, Prim, the Capitol, Cinna, and President Snow all fascinated me.

So, I've been in Panem for the past few days.

I read The Hunger Games and hungered for more.  (So glad I didn't have to wait for them to be published.)
Finished Catching Fire at 1:00 AM on Easter Sunday.

Wrapped it all up today with Mockingjay when I should be getting ready to return to school.
But ultimately the flawed, self-aware Katniss is the one who captivated me for the last few days.  And now, I'm sorry it's over.  I couldn't wait to get to the end, but now I'm sad.  I have no doubt these characters will haunt me for a long time.

Have these books captured you?
Are there others that had the same effect on you?
Will you be going to Panem?

  2. I love the Hunger Games books! When I first started reading, I thought it was the strangest thing. I couldn't figure out exactly WHAT I was reading. It was so bizarre. It didn't take long though, I became hooked in no time!

  4. Dear Sweet Bee,

Thank you so much for letting me read and enjoy them. I'm barely on page 88 out of 374 and I'm already captivated in The Hunger Games. The author, Suzanne Collins, really knows how to catch your attention. I hope you will let me read Catching Fire and Mockingjay. I wish I was 13,so I could see the movie.
    love,
    Baby Bee.

  5. Sweet Bee
I haven't read them, but my d'in-law was starting them when I was down visiting.
Everyone seems to get hooked once they
    start them!

  6. I haven't read these, but will read the first one, one of these days. For a great character try Emma by Jane Austen (some humor here, Emma is rather flawed but likeable) or The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie (main character is 11 year old Flavia, an expert on using poisons who tries to solve a crime).

  7. I really enjoyed the Hunger Games series. So did my husband-we even saw the movie. We felt we had to read them to keep up with our teen age Granddaughters. ha

  10. That book and now the movie are everywhere. My oldest daughter just downloaded it to her Kindle last week and with a new baby she hasn't had time to read it yet. I am presuming I will be reading it too, as well as the rest of the series of books. I have heard nothing but good reviews about it.
